If you are pregnant and aren't comfortable having a home birth a Nurse Midwife is a great alternative!
Some good questions to consider asking a Nurse Midwife before you choose one:
- How long have you been in practice & what kind of setting?
- What is your philosophy of care?
- What are your fees-will insurance cover it?
- Will my family be able to be present at the birth?
- When do you refer for C-section & how often?
- What is your protocol for labor positions-any restrictions during pushing?
- Do you support the perineum while pushing?
- What is your episiotomy rate?
- Vaccination & eye drop policies?
- Do you have breastfeeding & postpartum support?
- What pediatricians do you work with at the hospital?
